Discovering the Austrian Alps - 2006 trip preparatives

Since it wasn't possible to carry through our planed trip to Russia this year, passing by Moscow and S. Petersburg, we opted for another destination, not so far away but not less beautiful; a 4 day ride in the Austrian Alps, twirling during 2.000 kms among mountains, lakes and typical villages. As matter of fact, the Austrian Alps are considered one of the European paradises for motorcycling.

A good example of this is the fantastic Grossglockner pic one of the World's most famous alpine roads, which has a special program to welcome motorcyclists. In 2003 a new record attendance was achieved with over 76,000 motorcycles.

The 2.000 kms Austrian Alps route plan was kindly designed by our colleague Stephan Rissi, from the Austrian FJR Club, organizer of the well known FJR Austria Tour, to whom we wish to render our public thanks for his friendship and availability. By the way, we look forward to meet personally the Rissi Family at a dinner in Dornbirn, where they live in Austria.

Another novelty that we introduce in this year’s trip program is a mini-cruise on the Mediterranean, from Barcelona, in Spain, to Genoa, in Italy, boarding one of "Grimaldi Lines" sumptuous ferries.

With the trip’s program already defined, which will be carried along in the always pleasant company of our friends, Paz Ferreira couple - Honda Pan-European ST1300 - and of my sister Annie and my brother-in-law Manuel - Honda Goldwing GL 1800 (a winning team shouldn’t be touched ...), we just have to prepare our motorcycles for yet another European journey and duly program our GPS’s, routing them to the Austrian Alps.
